Salary: £25,000.00 to £30,000.00 /year
Due to the continued growth of the business and as part of a well developed succession plan, we are seeking to recruit an experienced Herdsperson to lead our small dairy team of two full time employees along with relief staff.
We have 300 cows and run a grazing based system over a total of 600 acres with a 200 acre grazing platform. Our mainly Fresian, Fresian Cross and Short Horn cows are calved in a tight Autumn block and milked through a 20/40 herringbone parlour producing over 6500 litres per cow.
Your role will be to manage the day to day running of the cows, including milking, stock management and cow health. You will therefore have experience of utilising grass and forage, together with highly developed stock skills with a keen eye for detail. Ideally, you’ll also have some experience of AI and Foot Trimming.
We have plans to install a new 44 point Rotary Parlour and are moving through a succession plan where the farm owner is stepping back to allow the next generation to take the farm forwards. Therefore, this new role is key to driving high standards and performance on the farm.
You’ll be rewarded with a competitive salary based on your experience and accommodation will be provided suited to your needs. We’re also committed to your training and development to ensure you’re progressing in your farming career.
The farm is located on the edge of Llandovery which is a pretty market town and community in Carmarthenshire, Wales. It lies on the River Tywi, around 25 miles northeast of Carmarthen and 27 miles north of Swansea. With excellent local schools and leisure facilities, together with the Brecon Beacons National Park nearby, this is a superb location for a family or single person to enjoy a quality lifestyle.
